Martin is a guy’s guy, one who enjoys the simple things in life: baseball games with his son, family days, barbecues, and date nights with his lovely wife.
Once a year for two weeks, Martin takes his son, Marty, to Quillon’s Covert, a rustic family cabin secluded in the beautiful California mountains. Since before those long days of learning to play ball, Marty has loved his dad, but as Marty matures, Martin starts to see something else settle in his son’s uncertain gaze. What’s there lingers a little more than it should, and it seems far more appraising than it once was.
As Marty shows every sign of taking the lead, Martin is faced with the tough choices most parents never see: lose his son by being a father, or try to balance what’s best for their relationship by being something… more.
But with another trip to Quillon’s Covert on the horizon, has the point of no return already begun?

Review:
Please take note of the tags. This book does contain incest. Not quasi or pseudo, but biological incest. If that bothers you in your reading it’s best to keep on passing by. Also, if you don’t like the concept of cheating, it’s probably going to be another issue. If any of these things piss you off. Don’t. Read. This. Book. All righty then…
Every year Martin Quillon and his son Martin jnr, or Marty, travel to the family cabin retreat of Quillon’s Covert. It’s a Quillon male bonding tradition. Martin snr used to go with his dad before him and now, for the last three years, he’s been taking his son Marty with him. It would have started sooner but Allie, Martin’s wife and Marty’s mum, had a problem letting Marty out of her sight for a while. When he was a pre-schooler Marty choked on a candy cane that resulted in surgery and an ongoing phobia. So, mum held Marty back for a while. But now Allie is glad to get her husband and son out of her hair for two weeks and the guys get to be nude, swim, camp, BBQ, grab pancakes, watch movies, shoot the shit, repair things and, well, boy-bond.
The first year at Quillon’s Covert we’re privy to (ages 14/34) it’s about Marty being bullied at school and Martin’s landscape design business growing. It’s an opportunity to take Marty away to relax and forget the bullies. Likewise, Martin can tune out from work and get to be with his favourite person. Marty is an only child and Martin is a worrier when it comes to Marty – the bullies, his son’s stutter, that he’s still fearful of choking.
Not being able to offer his son 24/7 protection had always weighed heavily on him.
The second year at Quillon’s Covert is about hormones, being a gangly teenager, zits, sexual urges, and Marty wanting to look as big, handsome and powerful as his father. More desires are surfacing and Marty is not totally sure where his heart and body are leading, although he has ideas.
Martin is supportive and understands his son’s stuttering. Martin grew out of it, Marty, still young, stutters when under pressure or tired. His father can place his finger on Marty’s lips and it soothes him, resets his mood. His father has always made Marty feel safe. Martin’s size, his words, his calmness all put Marty at ease. It’s clear from the beginning that both Martin and Marty have an inordinate depth of feelings for one another. When he was in the hospital Marty would call out for D, his nickname for Dad, and Martin would always have the same response, which comforted his son.
“D?”
“Yep, I’m here, Buddy.”
For Marty, being at Quillon’s Covert gives him extra time to talk to his dad about pretty much anything, even if he’s now somewhat more hormonally fuelled, and careful with emerging feelings. Sure Martin is lame at times, always calling his son some new annoying nickname, making silly jokes – typical dad stuff, but they both muck around and joke with one another with a casual ease. And every year they go to Quillon’s Covert they plan something at the end of that fortnight they can do the following year when they return. Ah… but the thing is, as Marty ages, outlooks and thoughts are changing. Not only is Marty’s dad his hero, but he’s also now acutely aware of feelings that (may just) transcend a standard father son-relationship.
Marty comes out to Martin for the first time at fifteen – at Quillon’s Covert – sitting naked on his dad’s lap, crying, worried his dad will be disappointed. Nothing new being naked, they strip off as soon as they hit the joint and are always sans clothes at their ‘boys’ getaway. But they certainly push standard familial boundaries with Marty’s erection making more of an appearance and Martin’s seemingly casual acceptance of it. They are seriously the most tactile father and son. They sleep in one bed as that’s all there is in the cottage, there could be another bed, but, hey…. Things ramp up as Marty’s hormones kick in even more, and after he has a joy ride that ends in an accident at sixteen, Martin snr punishes his son – yep, at Quillon’s Covert – with a somewhat erotic, yet seemingly well-intentioned, spanking. It’s naked and over knee. Mmm hmm…
Each year there’s more touchy-feely communication and intimacy going on, and before long Marty blurts out something that takes Martin slightly aback after a rather… interesting shower. There’s no ignoring it, but they can always address things that pop up (every pun intended) more closely the next year during those two weeks they spend in their private world at Quillon’s Covert. That’s providing the real world doesn’t intrude and do their heads in beforehand.
Some extra stuff –
Quillon’s Covert is told from two POV per chapter so you get the thoughts and emotions of both MCs from beginning to end. Each chapter is an age, starting at 14/34 and continuing through to 27/47, with the primary focus being between 14/34 – 20/40. One of the things that worked for me with this book was that everything that occurred did so during their time. That the world outside doesn’t really exist for two weeks. I liked the look at both guy’s perceptions of the other. I like that the authors didn’t get bogged down in outside influences, while still using some of them as a yardstick within individual thoughts and actions. I won’t elaborate, it’s best to read the book. I love that the authors went for it. If you’re diving into erotic taboo I always appreciate it being unabashed writing while staying the course with the characters. Which they did all the way through.
Marty is a virgin who saves himself for the love of his life, his dad. I think that says it all.
This is a GFY. Martin has never been with a man before. While he can appreciate a fine male body, he hasn’t had any desire to fuck a man previously. I am not a fan of GFY but in for a penny in for a pound. I somehow think it’s crazy semantics if I get weird over a GFY in an incest book.
“And that whole look at our two cocks together thing, damn! I think you’ve got this whole gay thing down.”
Martin ran a big hand across his face, wiping away a few more tears, and grinned. “I’m only gay for you, Son.”
Marty loves his foreskin, pulls it down so there is excess, and Martin loves it too. If you’re into foreskin overhang, you get it in this book.
It’s not a traditional romance, as weird as that may sound here. If you like your books with a standard HEA, it’s not happening, and if it had I would have called BS, thrown the Kindle, and deducted stars.
There is nothing I can say that will make this book seem like a sweet and sexy character driven love story to a reader who is uncomfortable with this storyline. However, this is seriously one of the most intensely romantic and sexy books I’ve read. I love Martin and Marty and I loved their relationship – as unconventional as that may be. I was happy that I was allowed to be a fly on the wall of their private lives, and let’s face it, in reality, which this is not, it’s something people tend to keep very, very private. But the authors let those of us in who want a fictional look-see.
This book is a genitalia tease, I swear. Just the simplest things were heightened and hot. I read erotic taboo romance for a number of reasons, and hello, no brainer, being hot is one of those reasons. Anticipation being another, along with the build and, dare I say it, the rebellion of it all. I have read some raunchier sex in other books, but there is an overriding rawness and this naughty and innocent juxtaposition that ramps everything up exponentially in Quillon’s Covert.
So I can ram it home again. You are reminded that this is an incest book, and often – exhibit A, B, C… and D –
Each time he raised himself, he dragged his dick against Martin’s hairy abdomen, and every time he lowered himself, he felt his dad’s foreskin being dragged down the thick shaft it covered. The more he repeated the movement, the more his dad’s cock oozed precum and lubed his thighs.
“Um, faster,” Martin breathed.
Marty spilled onto his dad’s chest, followed seconds later by Martin exploding between his thighs.
His dad’s lips formed another soft kiss, and then Marty was pulled back even tighter into his father’s strong chest. There had been few moments in his life that Marty could recall being completely at peace, he was sure this would always be one of them.
There’s also this dichotomy of love that’s ever-present. The MCs have an incredibly respectful, loving and caring father-son relationship throughout. Yet the elephant in the room morphs into more. They’re a father and son who end up fucking each other and that variation of father-son love, when it occurs, deviates from the ‘norm’. From a wide-eyed fourteen year old son with hero-worship, and a dad who cares, to adult lust and love.
“I love the man you are, Dad.” Marty toyed with a bit of the soft hair covering Martin’s chest. “You inspire me to be a better person.”
Yeah, you’re normally not playing with your dad’s chest hair as you say that. But that’s Quillon’s Covert and that’s part of the overall appeal.
Overview:
I absolutely loved the characters in this book. I revelled being in the cocoon of Quillon’s Covert with them. I read it in one sitting – I rarely do that now – and I felt completely and utterly attached, and, like Martin snr, protective. As a reader I often look for books on the fringe, on the taboo side, and this was a good fit. You have to go in with the mindset of ‘fiction’. But, irrespective, this is not going to be for everyone. While there are warning tags of erotica, taboo/incest, bear in mind that a genuine father-son relationship is developed beforehand from fourteen up – albeit it in a bubble. Still, this makes the book more psychologically confronting as it challenges your thought processes and precepts of familial and societal norms. And, bless them, it’s everything the authors promised it would be. I can’t recommend Quillon’s Covert highly enough for the right readers – you know who you are. 5 Stars!

Oh my God. Love your review for this book, Kazza. I was just thinking today that I’m looking for a good GFY with a taboo angle. This looks like it’s right up my alley. I’m normally turned off by the GFY books, but as you mentioned, it’s not really something I can take issue with when I’m looking at reading a book about incest. Lol. Really just part of the fantasy. So excited about checking this one out.
Thanks, Devon 🙂
And… you’re the right reader. By the way, I love how you were, you know, just kind of looking for a good taboo GFY, lol. I totally get it.
I honestly believe you’ll enjoy Quillon’s Covert and I’m really interested to hear your thoughts once you’ve read it.
Oh my my my! Quillons Cove sounds like it’s up my alley too. Kinky and romantic and incest taboo. If it was dark that would be perfection. 🙂 Awesome review kazza. Dec 18th seems a long wait. 🙁
Thank you, Jana. It’s not dark-dark, but I guess the subject matter may count? I know you liked the Demoted series so I think you’ll be the right reader for QC too 🙂
Let us know how you go with this book. December 18th is getting closer every time I look at the calendar.
Dayum! Helluva review Kazza! Parts of me are clapping loudly. My superpower is loving gay erotica so I reckon I’m that right reader. He! Whaddya think? 😉
Thanks, Jay. Um, I think your “superpower” has been proven. Repeatedly, lol
This is a book for you but it’s not erotica per se, but it is erotic… I give up. I know you’ll just like it.
Oh yeah, and I want one of YOUR reviews on this book 🙂
Wow! I’m truly speechless, Kazza! Such a beautiful review. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. *happy dance*
JLT =)
Thank you and you’re welcome, JLT. I loved it 🙂
PS The fan art is…just damn! Whew! #hot
Yes… well… if you write the words I’ll gladly go all ‘artistic’ on them 😉
What a fantastic review. I know the thought of ‘taboo’ disturbs a lot of readers, but damn it if I don’t want to read this as soon as it’s published. But then again, I don’t mind a bit of taboo in what I read. 😉
I love the review and I love the visuals.
Not for everyone, but those who are like me, maybe not quite like me, lol, I believe they’ll enjoy the book.
There’s nothing like a bit of taboo and a bit of kink to get the blood pumping. I hope you do pick it up. I’d love to discuss it while you’re reading it.
Thanks, Cindi, I aim to please with the visuals. Oh…I nearly put up a Fast and the Furious meme because they watch number 6, I think it is, and I knew you would have laughed if I’d done that 🙂
Blown away by this review, and all the effort you put into it!
Thank you <3
And the memes, gah!
So much love for this post
Thank you love <3 <3 <3
Aww, thank you, Louis. You’re welcome. I really enjoyed the book… as you can see 🙂
We tend to be passionate reviewers here. So it’s meme and GIF central when we love something.
The visuals here always add something special to your reviews. 🙂 I can see myself reading this one. Wouldn’t be my first taboo story and definitely won’t be my last. 🙂
Thanks, Lisa. I love a good visual or two as well 🙂 I kind of thought of you as someone who probably would read and enjoy Quillon’s Covert. No, it won’t be my last either 🙂
