Lance Scott and Rick Preston have been to Hell and back. They’re now living happily as a couple and are in the process of planning a wedding. Everything is going well until Rick has a conversation with old friends that brings back old doubts and insecurities. Lance doesn’t care about their age difference but Rick is convinced that someday Lance will decide he wants someone closer to his own age. When Rick’s doubts start affecting the relationship he risks pushing Lance away and ruining everything they’ve worked so hard for. It’s up to Lance to prove to the man he loves that he plans to stick around for the long haul.

Trusting Lance is part 3.5 of the Taking Lance series. While it can be read as a standalone, the story and characters (both main and secondary) are important to the series as a whole.

Review:

It’s two weeks until Rick Preston and Lance Scott are getting married. All is pretty good Trusting Lance Quote 1between the two nowadays. However, after spending an afternoon with mutual friends of the couple, Alex and Dean, who are lovers and also have an age gap – more based on his own insecurity – Rick fears he’s too old for Lance. That Lance will grow tired of him and move on to someone closer to his own age is a niggling fear for Rick. The younger Lance may be in love, and he’s not giving Rick any reason to doubt his love and commitment, but he won’t put up with any nonsense from Rick. Lance has come a long way from the eighteen year old he was in Taking Lance. Mind you, Lance has always been street smart and known what he wanted in one way or another.

It took us forever to finally get our shit together and become an item. It took three years for him to finally get his head out of his ass and realize that our age difference didn’t matter. Three years of me going off to college and then being forced to come home to watch him with this or that woman.

So there is a little drama but it doesn’t last too long. It allows the players in the next book, Alex and Dean, to have a little on-page time and some of the other characters, like Travis and Mark, Karen and Aaron, do have cameos. However, Trusting Lance is all about the MC’s love and earned acceptance of where they are today.

If you haven’t read Taking Lance or Keeping Lance it isn’t a big deal, the author uses some Trusting Lance Quote 2reminiscing and events to catch you up. Probably the hardest thing for a new reader to grasp is the shenanigans ex partners have pulled and the results of some of their assholitry. However, it really isn’t a drama and if you feel you’d like more information and connection you can always read #1 and #2 because the series as a whole is well priced. For me, it was nice to have a personal connection with Rick and Lance as I’ve enjoyed meeting them and then watching their naughty development together – at times loving, at times fiery, then fighting together for their love. Of the three Rick and Lance specific books this is the sweetest, but it’s still sexy. The first two are raunchier, including other partners, women – for Rick only – included. This short novella is about looking at how far Rick and Lance have come. Their friends, some found in unusual circumstances, and their love.

Not much more to say in this review. It’s only 48 pages and 0.99 cents so it’s worth a personal look-see.

Overview:

You know how you get hooked on particular characters? A series starts at the right time Trusting Lance Quote 3for you and you just enjoy the crap out of it? That’s me and Rick and Lance and the “Lance” series as a whole. So the Taking Lance series is a not so secret not so guilty pleasure for me. Reading Trusting Lance was like coming home to be with old friends of mine. I love that the guys are finally going to tie the knot. I have such a soft spot for Rick and Lance. Recommended for people who like an age difference in their MM reading and a quick and easy short with no sex outside the MCs and minimal complications all set within a sexy romance. 4 Stars!
