WARNING: THIS IS AN EXTREME HORROR NOVEL. There is gore. There is bad language. There are scenes of a sexual nature.

PORN tells the tragic tale of Victoria Sheldon – a young lady who wanted nothing more than to become an actress. With times being hard Victoria finds herself in the world of Adult Movie Industry where she soon carves a name for herself. Soon the offers are flowing in, as is the money, as she becomes more and more popular amongst the producers but then she meets him…A man with an offer she can’t refuse. A man who has other ideas about how pornographic films should be filmed. A man catering for a much, much darker audience.

From the Dark Mind behind Sick B*stards, Tortured and Rotting Dead F*cks – PORN is a violent tale of sex and revenge. It is intended for a mature audience only.

Review:

There are a couple of things I want to get out of the way before I get into my review. You see that warning in red? In the title? On the actual book cover? It’s there for a reason. This book is not for the faint of heart or anyone who can not handle reading about what the warning lists – extreme horror, gore, bad language and sexual situations. By sexual situations, this means consensual sex and many occasions of on-page non-consensual situations. If you are bothered by any of this, don’t read this book. You won’t be doing the author any favors if you go into it expecting something it’s not. Heed the warnings and read at your own risk.

Anyone who follows my reviews on this site and Goodreads knows that I’m a huge horror fan – books, not the movies. I have reviewed several horror books on this site and devour them when I’m able. I’ve seen Matt Shaw’s name all over the place over the past few weeks and had to force myself not to do the one-click thing on Amazon. I had the feeling that reading one of his would have me wanting to read as many of them back-to-back as possible. So, I held off and waited. Finally, I decided to jump in, so to speak, with PORN. I wasn’t disappointed. Now that I’ve finished this one, I do want to read as many as I can get my hands on, and when time allows, I’m going to. Boy, did I start with a great one.

Victoria Sheldon just wants to be an actress. She moves out of the home of her parents and moves to the city in hopes of following her dream. There are a few bit parts here and there but it doesn’t take long before Victoria’s savings is about gone and bills are piling up. Almost desperate, she answers an ad in the back of a magazine for adult stars. Sure, when she walks into the initial interview she is very much aware of the type of role she’s auditioning for, but still a bit on the naive side, she’s totally not prepared for everything that will happen later.

After Victoria’s first porn film, she jumps at the chance of taking every single role offered to her. She knows that the offers could dry up at anytime so she wants to be able to keep bringing in the money while she can. Popular enough, the offers keep coming. She has an agent (who is more than a little shady) who keeps her working. Having never turned down a job, she gets an email from the agent telling her to meet someone in regards to her next film. That meeting doesn’t take place in a traditional office and Victoria is a bit put off by the lack of professionalism right off. There is also another man at the meeting, a man who will be her costar in the film if she agrees to it. For some reason, she feels a bit creeped out by the meeting with these men but she agrees to the role because the money is good. This film – and what happens in the midst of filming – sets the stage for the story. Something happens that makes Victoria Sheldon a woman out for revenge. When I say revenge, I mean the  naive girl from before is long gone and a vengeful woman has taken her place.

There is not much more I can say about this book without giving too much away. Suffice it to say that when Victoria gets revenge on those who wronged her, she does it in a very violent way. But the reader, while squicked out more than once, will be rooting for Victoria because what was done to her (and possibly others) was so violent and so horrific that you want to see those involved pay – in a big way.

The ending of this book is brilliant. Hell, the entire book is brilliant and that’s a word I’ve only reserved for a select few books I’ve read over the years. I went into this expecting what I got – horror, gore, violence. What I did not expect was to walk away from it with another author to add to my favorites list. Matt Shaw sucked me in on the very first page and I didn’t want to put down my Kindle even for a second until I had finished reading the story. Don’t get me wrong, there are more than a few scenes that made me cringe and at one point I even almost gagged (something I’ve never done while reading a book, regardless of the content), but once you get started with PORN, you must keep going to see what will happen next, even if you are scared of what will be on the next page.

Overall, an outstanding book. To say I’m eager to jump into the next Matt Shaw book is an understatement.

Highly recommended if you heed the warnings at the top of this review. If you love a good horror book and don’t mind everything listed in the content warnings, this is the book for you. If even one of those things listed bothers you, stay away. Again, you won’t be doing the author any favors.
