Blog-Versary Interview & Giveaway: Sloan Parker

Last year we had Sloan Parker at On Top Down Under Book Reviews for our 2 year blog anniversary. Because Sloan Parker is an author Cindi and I both enjoy reading, we felt it fitting to have her join us again for our third year. Welcome, Sloan.

Sloan: Happy 3rd anniversary! I’m so excited to be here again. This is one of my favorite events to be a part of, and I’m honored you asked me back.

Kazza:  Thank you 🙂 🙂

Kazza: Since you were last here you’ve had a book come out that I was both excited and MOREnervous about, the follow up to More, More Than Most.  More Than Most is from Richard’s POV and anyone who reads my reviews knows that I’m a total Richard Marshall fangirl. It was so satisfying for me that I loved More Than Most. More is a much loved book, was it nerve-wracking for you having the next in that series come out, and with a different character’s Perspective? I know Richard is a communicator, but how easy/hard was Richard to coax out for the book?

Sloan: I’m so glad you liked Richard’s story. I actually was a little more nervous about the release of MORE THAN MOST than I might normally be with a new book. I wasn’t sure if readers of MORE would like the new point of view or, with the break between books, if they’d still find the characters interesting and want to follow them through more of their story. One of the things I try very hard to do when I’m writing each book is to remain focused on the story I want to tell and the experiences I want More Than Mostthose specific characters to go through, and not think too hard about where the book will end up and who might read it. That’s the only way I know to write with all the passion and excitement that I can. By the time the book releases, I feel like I’ve done the best I could to write a story that excites and moves me, and I never turn it over to my editor until I’m proud of those efforts. Then when the book is out, I try to remember those feelings, remember that I did all I could to write an engaging and entertaining story for readers.

As for coaxing Richard out, once I found his voice and felt comfortable writing in his perspective, his feelings and reactions actually came much easier than those of the more sarcastic Luke. I loved looking at the threesome from Richard’s perspective, and finally being able to show his thought processes as he tried to get the other two men to communicate was such fun.

Kazza: The next in the More series has Matthew’s POV. Cindi is a huge Matthew lover and More Than Most Quote 5I know a lot of other readers feel the same. Any pressure writing that book? Is there a (working) title for Matthew’s POV? Anything you can share with the readers that we should know?

Sloan: Matthew’s probably the character readers tell me they love the most, so yeah, I think there’s a bit more pressure with his book. But honestly I’m trying not to think about it too much for fear I might freeze up, and I don’t want the pressure to affect the end result. The first draft went really well, although I did find it hard to take the sweet Matthew through some of the more difficult emotional experiences I wanted to explore with him. It made it easier having his two men right there with him through it all. The working title for Matthew’s story is MORE THAN EVER.

Kazza: Stepping away from More, although I know Walter was a part of that universe, is How to Save A LifeVargas’ book – in the Haven series – being written as I type this interview? Because, no pressure, I am eagerly awaiting that book. Once again, if there is writerly- type action on that book, does it have a title? And when can we expect a release?

Sloan: Yes, I’m currently working on the second Haven book. It’s tentatively titled HOW TO HEAL A LIFE and focuses on Vargas and Seth, who were both secondary characters from HOW TO SAVE A LIFE. Vargas and Seth’s story is turning out to be incredibly emotional, suspenseful, and erotic, and I hope readers of the series will enjoy it as much as I’m loving writing it.

The plan is to release HOW TO HEAL A LIFE under my Sloan Parker imprint. We don’t have a release date yet, but we’ll be scheduling it as soon as the manuscript is finished and ready for editing. The best way for readers to get news about this and other books (release dates, cover reveals, exclusive excerpts) is through my newsletter.

Kazza: Is there anything else on the Sloan Parker writing front that readers can expect on the near horizon? If so, please share.

Sloan: I’ve also started planning a new series. Right now, the plan is for four books, each a friends-to-lovers romance set in the same town. Since my mind has been spinning with ideas for these stories, all of the books in the series have already been outlined, and I can’t wait to share this new set of characters with everyone.

We are also working on foreign translations for some of my titles. It’s still early in the process, so nothing definite to share on that yet.

Kazza:  Which all sounds very exciting.

Kazza: One more thing. Living in a country that, sadly and frustratingly, still does not haveLove knows no gender race etc marriage equality, and it’s a hot topic here, I was wondering, how has the marriage equality rulings in America affected you and your long-term partner? How much happiness has that brought the two of you?

Sloan: I’m so sorry that Australia still does not have marriage equality. My heart goes out to all gay and lesbian couples waiting for those rights, and I hope that injustice is rectified soon.

My partner and I were married this past summer, and it meant a great deal to us to finally have that moment to share and celebrate with each other. After many years together, it was also reassuring and freeing to know we now have the same rights that all married couples are afforded in the US.

Kazza: Thanks, Sloan. Congratulations from Cindi and I. That’s wonderful news.

Kazza: Thank you to Sloan Parker for joining us today.

Sloan: You’re very welcome. Thank you for having me on the blog and for the thoughtful questions. And thank you so much for all you do for the world of M/M romances. I hope On Top Down Under has another successful and fun-filled year.

Congratulations on your marriage Sloan!
Your books are the reason I started reading m/m romances and I am now certifiably obsessed:)
I recently read how to save a life and although Seth was an arguably minor part I feel so invested in his character especially his recovery after everything he went through so am particularly looking forward to the second book in that series.

Sloan Parker

Thanks, Christie. I’m so honored that my books are the reason you started reading M/M. I’m working on Seth’s story right now and I’m loving the intensity of it and the chemistry between him and Vargas. Can’t wait to share it with everyone.

Thank you for another wonderful giveaway and author post. I love Sloan’s books and I am very happy to read the More series from the perspective of each of the MC’s. One of my favourite books is The Break In, which is quite strange for me as I am normally a lover of novel length stories and this is just a short story. Although I would love to read more about their story, perhaps one day….?

Sloan Parker
Guest

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the interview, Sula. Love that The Break-In is one of your favorites. I’m definitely not ruling out the idea of going back and telling the story of how those three got together. Or maybe something in the future. I’d love to share more with them in any case.

I haven’t read any of the More books, and I know I’ve heard great things, but you know how it goes, so many books, so little time. I love hearing that these have the different POVs in each of the books, as that’s honestly, something I LOVE when done well. So, I need to get to putting these on my list! Thank you for being part of the blog-versary again, and congratulations on your marriage. May you have all the joy you can handle!

Thanks, Carolyn. Appreciate you checking out the post and the lovely congrats. If you get a chance to check out the MORE books, I hope you enjoy them.
