BearCity: the Novel by Lawrence Ferber, based on Doug Langway’s screenplay

Based on the award-winning feature-length movie, Bear City follows the funny, romantic, and often dramatic adventures of a tight-knit pack of bears, cubs, and friends in New York City as they gear up for a big party weekend. A hirsute Sex and the City set in the “Bear” scene, this story brings together these men, their friends, tricks, and lovers, and a cast of colorful, hirsute characters. They experience comical mishaps, lusty and romantic encounters, and an impressive variety of male body types. Using satire and humor, the novel exposes their explores these men’s self-image issues and pokes fun at aspects of urban gay lifestyles, all while celebrating the worldwide community of men who call themselves Bears.

BearCity: The Novel

Publishing a novelization of a movie is a tricky thing. Screenplays are sparse on details and heavy on dialogue. Fortunately we had one of Doug’s good friends working on the project and he produced a breezy novel that meets the hilarity of watching the movie.

We have two copies of BearCity to give away. You may choose print or digital edition.

This was a fun movie and I wonder if the infamous “shower” scene will be included in the book? I also wonder how the book will transpose itself as a novel, as I have read a few books written from film to novel (as well as visa versa) and some have been a bit disappointing. Although I will also be interested to experience the characters thoughts combined with my thoughts from the film, that would be fun 😀 Do you know a third Bear City film is just been filmed and will be out next year?
