In Support of Eric Arvin

Woke Up in a Strange PlaceIn the three-plus years that On Top Down Under Book Reviews has been in existence both Kazza and I have had the pleasure of working with some pretty amazing authors. We go out of our way to not show favoritism, but we know our love of specific books and the authors who write them comes through in our reviews. I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone who has followed my reviews that I’m a huge fan girl of Eric Arvin’s books. No, not just his books. I’m a huge fan of him as a person as well.

I started reading Eric’s books several years ago. It started with Woke Up In A Strange Place and I can honestly say I’ve loved that one and every one of his I’ve read since. The Mingled Destinies of Crocodiles and Men and Azrael and the Light Bringer, along with Woke Up In A Strange Place, will forever be at the top of my list of all-time favorite books. The writing is simply brilliant. There is no other word to describe it. Then there are the books where Eric’s naughty side comes out to play like Kid Christmas Rides Again.

The Mingled DestiniesAzrael and the Light Bringer

Eric has said that he keeps my reviews in his rainy day folder and that he pulls them out on occasion to lift him up. What Eric might not realize is that his kindness to me and our site has been good for our own rainy days. There have been many times over the past three years I’ve gotten frustrated and wanted to throw my hands up and walk away. I’d get bashed by an author or another reader because of a review and I’d stop and wonder, “If this is voluntary, why in the world do I put myself in a position to get attacked by someone over my opinion?” Then I’d go back and reread messages Eric sent me before he got ill about my reviews of his work and be reminded of why I and Kazza continue to do what we do.

Most of you are aware of what Eric has been going through over the last couple of years. He’s had a rough go of it and he needs our help. If anyone deserves a bit of happiness, it’s him. Eric is one of ours and we support our own. Below is the link to a GoFundMe page that will hopefully help Eric get something that he desperately needs. There is also a link on the right side of the blog that will be seen by anyone who reads a review or post on this site. Hopefully those same people will click the link and donate. Even if you only donate a dollar, that’s a dollar toward helping Eric have a better life.

One of the very best and most authentic interviews we have ever had on this blog is a v-log interview with Eric. It is on here I’ll just have to dig it out and place it in a better spot – it was transferred over from an older blog. He is a wonderful author and a lovely guy. I hope everyone in the community, and beyond, gets behind Eric to help him get the quadriciser – anything for a better quality of care and life. Like Cindi says, buy his books. Read them. Not only will it help him, it… Read more »
