Lethe Press, Day 8 Giveaway: Home Fires Burning by Charlie Cochrane
Home Fires Burning by Charlie Cochrane
Two stories, two couples, two eras, timeless emotions. In “This Ground Which Was Secured At Great Expense,” it is 1914 and the Great War is underway. When the call to arms comes, Nicholas Southwell won’t be found hanging back. It’s a pity he can’t be so decisive when it comes to letting his estate manager Paul Haskell know what he feels before he has to leave for the front line. In the trenches Nicholas meets a fellow officer, Phillip Taylor, who takes him into the unclaimed territory of physical love. Which one will he choose, if he’s allowed the choice? In “The Case of the Overprotective Ass,” stars of the silver screen Alasdair Hamilton and Toby Bowe are wowing the post WWII audiences with their depictions of Holmes and Watson. When they are asked by a friend to investigate a mysterious disappearance, they jump at the chance-surely detection can’t be that hard? But a series of threatening letters-and an unwanted suitor-make real life very different from the movies. Charlie Cochrane brings her familiar romantic, roguish style to the two novellas that together are Home Fires Burning.
This book was originally published by a small press specializing in historical gay fiction. When that press folded, I made an offer to the authors to rescue their orphaned books. I adore historical fiction and Charlie Cochrane is a well-established and talented author, so I was thrilled that Lethe could reprint this book–which is two romantic and engaging novellas under one cover.
We have two copies of Home Fires Burning to give away. You may choose print or digital editions.
Worth rescuing! I’ve added this to my TBR list. 🙂
Another now on my TBR. I have a ‘thing’ for WWI and WWII fiction and non-fiction. Excellent giveaway 🙂
Charlie Cochrane is a wonderful author, I’d love to be able to add Home Fires Burning to my collection of her novels!
Those two stories sound wonderful and have been added to my list. I’m not surprised though; Charlie is as wonderful a writer as she is a human being.
Like everyone else my TBR pile is getting out of sight!
Sounds like a good read to me 🙂 i especially like the blurb of This Ground Which Was Secured At Great Expense, So thanks for another great giveaway.
I’m always greedy for more historicals, and I know Charlie Cochrane delivers a great story (and two in this one, I expect). Thanks for sharing this!
I love Charlie Cochrane’s books but haven’t read this one yet so please put my name into the hat as. Thanks
I love Charlie Cochrane’s work. I would love to read Home Fires Burning too.
Yay another historical book, thank you so much for a chance to win a copy. I enjoy reading Charlie’s, especially the Cambridge Fellows Mysteries series, partly as its written in home city of Cambridge, its historical and I also love the characters.
I LOVE this author.
I haven’t read as many of Charlie Cochrane’s as I mean to, so I haven’t gotten to this one yet. I love the sound of these novellas, and I am drawn to all things historical, so I definitely have to try, right? Thank you for the giveaway!
Great author.
