Lev Baxter’s life has been spent searching for the truth of the world’s dark mysteries, and hiding from his own secrets. Burdened by love and lust for his married best friend, Shaw Montgomery, Lev escapes into the arms of countless, unnamed women in foreign lands, far from his true temptation. But Shaw seeks him out and Lev succumbs. The price he pays lies in a Romanian demon’s curse, and his guilt drives him into hiding. When the curse comes to fruition and Lev has no choice but to carve it from his body, no amount of running or hiding can save him from the truths which find him at last.

Review:

I think the cover gives this away as being M-Preg… if my tags didn’t. It’s a sub-genre I am fascinated with and I’ve read a few of them. This one was actually Cursed Blessings Quote 1centred around the birth and while you totally have to suspend belief with all mpreg it was pretty, well, life-like in how you would handle things. What do you do when you are pregnant with the man who is your bestie’s baby? He’s married to someone else, a woman, and has a son to her. You figure him for a straight guy who fooled around with you, but he’s not going to be with you. You can’t go to hospital as they’ll take your child away and go all Roswell on you and your baby. So you buy some second-hand veterinary ultrasound machinery, you get a scalpel, hole up in a motel room with blood, and tell no one where the hell you are. Have your phone close by in case it all goes horribly wrong and they can save your baby, but not you.

This was a interesting read. 5,300 words and it grabbed my attention. I would Cursed Blessings Quote 2have loved, LOVED this to be longer because I had questions and I wanted to see some more angst in there that only extra page time would have given me. But, seriously, Lynn Kelling can write a phone book now and I think I’d read it and enjoy it because something twisty would happen, like a few digits left off or mixed up to keep me on my toes. There would be some sex between the digits in the Lynn Kelling phone book too, enough to keep me fanning myself. I know, not a great review, but it’s short and I’d ruin it if I prattled on.

There’s a touch of the mystical, paranormal – call it what you will. Lev believes he has been cursed for not caring about the women he has slept with to try to get over his love and desire for his married best friend, Shaw. That he wants Shaw to be with him, not Eva. While in Romania somehow the curse was placed on him so that he’d feel what it’s like to be a woman left alone and unloved…and with a child. No better way than being pregnant and giving birth – oooh, that is 100% for sure.

Overall:

If you like Lynn Kelling, if you like some mpreg with your guys, and you’re feeling in the mood for a quickie, which I was. Annnd…if you just don’t care about the fact the guys cheat, I don’t. That it’s a bit squicky and also a bit sweet, it is, and has some meaning, then this is a novella I can recommend. Good emotion, feeling, and interest generated in so few words makes it 4 Stars!

This looks like an interesting story. It looks like a lot was covered in those 5,300 words. I know you’re a big fan of this author’s work and it shows in this review.

GREAT review. Love the pics and quotes.
